The EQA-SmartWeir

Electricity producing "Smart" Weir

The EQA-SmartWeir is an electricity producing weir made with recycled plastics. Our original product, designed after an extensive innovation dialouge between Waterschap Rivierenland, EQA-Projects, students and other marketparties.

The EQA-SmartWeir was the result of this process. An affordable, sustainable, light weigth and standardised solution for water managers, built chiefly with recycled plastics. The inclusion of a low rotational speed and fishfriendly EQA-Waterwheel produces the electricity for autonomous operation and with sufficient heigth difference delivers electricity to the grid.

With the EQA-SmartWeir, many thousands of weirs globally can become electricity producing locations for the development of a decentralised grid.

With built-in intelligent software, the EQA-SmartWeir can become an asset in every water system by providing self-powered, real-time data to the water manager while a system of multiple EQA-SmartWeirs can communicate with one another and form a chain of intelligent weirs, allowing automated measures taken depending on the local conditions and requirements in advance.

The EQA-SmartWeir generates clean and sustainable electricity from hydropower, which will aid your organisation in transitioning to sustainable energy.

Making use of the constant and reliable source of energy, water, the EQA-SmartWeir not only provides electricity for itself, but can also deliver energy to the grid when a sufficient height difference is present.

Designed and built chiefly with recycled plastics ensures that the installation not only provides an reduction in Co2 output but helps to combat the plastic soup drifting in our waters as well.

To not disturb the ecology of a water system, the EQA-SmartWeir includes a patented fishway in the form of a 'fish slider', designed in specific with the wellbeing of the living organisms in our waters in mind.

Prolonged testing and measurements have shown that no fish has died nor damaged by an EQA-SmartWeir installation and thus can name itself 'fish friendly'.

The EQA-SmartWeir provides self-powered, real-time measurements providing the watermanager with insights about the functioning of a water system, without having to conduct on site measurements. Multiple EQA-Smart Weir installations can communicate with one another, allowing for automated measures in a chain.

A camera system can optionally be installed to remotely monitor the installation and its enviornment, all autonomously powered by the EQA-SmartWeir.
